There are so many things to love about living in Lake Oswego- from the “vacation town” feel that living in and around the lake provides, the shops and restaurants peppering various nooks and crannies of this hamlet to the plentitude of ongoing, neighborly events including farmers markets and concerts on the grass or in Millennium Plaza Park. It’s easy to see why people love living here. Somewhere around the top of that list, however, is the trees. Lake Oswego is very, very protective of it’s trees. They are part of what makes it so beautiful here… providing us shade on our walkabouts in the summertime, giving our homes and neighborhoods the beauty they provide, etc etc. They are pretty integral to the Lake Oswego living experience, and the City of Lake Oswego is pretty serious when it comes to protecting them. That’s why it is very important to understand what you can do to help combat the incoming/expected Emerald Ash Borer infestation of ash trees.
The city is implementing a comprehensive program of chemical pre-treatment, selective removals and upkeep on all public land. That said, it’s important to note that 80% of the city’s tree canopy is on private land. this is a moment for everyone to come together and do their part in identifying any ash trees on their property and working with the city to take prompt action in coordination with ongoing efforts.
