Oregon Shakespeare Festival

I’m going far afield here, but when thinking about what I want to write as an editorial, I really try to share information that I think will benefit you. Today, I want to tell you about the Oregon Shakespeare Festival that is held each year in Ashland, Oregon. Ashland is about a 5 hour drive South of Lake Oswego. It is so worth the drive!

Held each year between March and October, most of the plays are offered all season. Of course there are Shakespearian plays. This year A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Taming of the Shrew, and Henry IV are all being offered. However, the festival also offers non-Shakespearian plays. This year Come From Away (a wonderful play!), A Raisin in the Sun, and Emma are also being offered. Depending on your budget, you can plan ahead and see several.

Make sure that at least one of the plays that you see is being performed in the Elizabethan Theater. This theater is an open-air reproduction of the original theater in London where Shakespeare originally staged his productions. On a summer evening, as the sun sets and the lights come up, it’s a very special event. It will transport you to another place and time. It’s so lovely!

Enjoy!
